Deputy Editor at Science with responsibility for supervising the magazine’s biological research content, and international managing editor for AAAS Science International’s European headquarters. He holds a PhD in tropical rainforest ecology and has researched into the biogeography of tropical cloud forests, primarily in Colombia and Venezuela. Founding editor of the journal Trends in Ecology & Evolution, he has also served as co-editor of Endeavour, founding editor of Trends in Plant Sciences and managing editor at Elsevier Trends Journals.
