Fabián Panisello is a composer and conductor. Founder and currently Artistic Director of PluralEnsemble, an instrumental group specializing in 20th and 21st century music, he is also Professor of Composition at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, where he served as academic director and later director between 1996 and 2019. He trained as a composer with Francisco Kröpfl in Buenos Aires and with Bogusław Schaeffer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Diploma of Excellence, 1993). His works have been performed by artists of the stature of Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, the Arditti Quartet, Susanna Mälkki, Dimitri Vassilakis, Allison Bell, Laia Falcón, Marco Blaauw, Leigh Melrose and Francesco D’Orazio, and by ensembles such as SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Orquesta Nacional de España and the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg. Panisello has participated as co-conductor in two Stockhausen premieres with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Cologne and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and had his conducting debut at Madrid’s Teatro Real in 2022 with the premiere of the opera El abrecartas, by Luis de Pablo. For the past eleven years he has served as director of the BBVA Foundation’s contemporary music season.
