Professor in the Instituto de Ecología at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His research areas are primarily animal ecology, biogeography and nature conservation. Among his achievements, we can cite his work for the passage of Mexico’s Endangered Species Act, and for the establishment of nature reserves spanning over two million hectares of national territory. He holds the Distinguished Academic Service Award of the Society for Conservation Biology (United States), among other honors.
