Research Professor and Director of the Instituto de Física Fundamental of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), his main research topics are theoretical molecular physics and cluster physics.
Known as the introducer to Spain of atomic physics, he has served as president of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics and chairs both the Spanish Committee of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and the International Council for Science.
He is a Fellow of the British Institute of Physics and of the European Physical Society.
