A student at the Paris Conservatory under Milhaud and Messiaen, in 1967 he was appointed Director of the Domaine Musical concert series, where he remained until its demise in 1974. Founder, first conductor and artistic director of Radio-France’s Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique, he has taught conducting courses with Gyorgy Ligeti at the Centre Acanthes, and coposition and music analysis at the University of Yale. Director of the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique in Lyon from 1984 to 2000.
