Professor of Economics and International and Public Affairs at Columbia University (New York, United States), where he also heads the Program in Economic Policy Management. His main field of expertise is macroeconomics of emerging market and transition economies. He has served as Chief Economist with the Inter-American Development Bank and president of the International Economic Association, and is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
