Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (Germany), Professor for Theoretical Physics at Potsdam University and External Professor for Theoretical Physics at Postdam University and External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute (United States). Chair of the german Advisory Council on Global Change and formerly of the Global Change Advisory Group for the Sixth Framework Program of the European Commision, he is currently a member of the corresponding panel for the Seventh Framework Program and of the Advisory Board of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.
