Professor of Economics and ICREA-Academia Fellow at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) (Spain), he is also a Research Professor at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie) and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. His main focus areas are economic development, ethnic diversity, banking and housing finance and the economics of education. Author of 14 books and over 100 articles in scholarly journals, he has served as a consultant for the OECD, the European Union, the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.
