José Muñiz is the Chancellor of Nebrija University and, since 1987, Professor of Psychometrics at the University of Oviedo. He is an elected member of the Academia de Psicología de España. Holder of a BA and PhD in Psychology, Muñiz began his career at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), teaching there until 1984 when he took up an appointment as Professor of Mathematical Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He has undertaken research in the areas of psychometrics, psychological assessment and mathematical psychology and served as an editorial board member and reviewer for numerous scientific journals, including Psicothema, which he founded then led for over 30 years. A former president of the European Commission on Tests and Testing, the International Test Commission (ITC) and the European Association of Methodology (EAM), within Spain he has also chaired the Consejo Asesor de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (CAICYT) of the Principality of Asturias and the Asociación Española de Metodología de las Ciencias del Comportamiento (AEMCCO).
