Professor of Musicology at the University of Salzburg (Austria). His main area of research is historical musicology, with the emphasis on the Middle Ages, the 20th century, the history of musical interpretation, and film and music, especially the French Nouvelle Vague. Holder of the Franz Liszt Medal of the Hungarian Academy of Music and a Fellow of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, he has been Visiting Professor at Harvard University (United States) and universities in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
