PhD from Columbia University (United States), his academic career has taken him to the universities of Princeton, Minnesota, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Stanford, and Harvard. His research interests are the causes and consequences of economic development, and international migration. He is current editor of Journal of Development Economics and formerly edited the World Bank Economic Review and Journal of Economic Literature.
