Mauro Bucarelli is Artistic Administrator of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, which he joined in 1991 after four years in the artistic direction of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. In his current role he has collaborated with conductors such as Daniele Gatti, Christian Thielemann, Myung-Whun Chung and Antonio Pappano. A musicologist with a degree in piano and composition, he has worked for the Enciclopedia Treccani and as a consultant for RAI Radio 3, the classical music station of the Italian public broadcaster. He also spent time as a researcher for the Fondazione Rossini in Pesaro, where he contributed to a new critical edition of the composer’s complete works. As a specialist in musical iconography, he oversaw the conversion of Rossini’s house in Pesaro into a museum, and was scientific coordinator for the exhibition Rossini 1792-1992. He is a prolific writer and essayist, authoring program notes for opera houses like the Metropolitan Opera in New York and La Scala in Milan, as well as major record labels.
