Paul HillierPaul Hillier, a baritone, is Artistic Director of the Theatre of Voices (Copenhagen, Denmark), as well as Chief Conductor of vocal ensemble Ars Nova Copenhagen, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, and Artistic Director of Coro Casa da Música (Porto, Portugal). Trained at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in 1973 he founded the Hilliard Ensemble, which he led until 1990. That same year, in California, he founded the Theatre of Voices ensemble which would subsequently move to Europe. Among his former appointments, he has been a professor at the University of California, Davis, director of the Early Music Institute at Indiana University, and principal conductor of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. He has over 100 recordings to his name, including two Grammy winners, and has written books on Arvo Pärt and Steve Reich, along with numerous anthologies of choral music.
