Peter Paul Kainrath is, since 2020, CEO of Klangforum Wien, a contemporary music ensemble founded in Vienna (Austria) in 1985, and Director of the Ferruccio Busoni-Gustav Mahler Foundation (Bolzano, Italy), whose mission is the discovery, training and promotion of young talents through the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, the Gustav Mahler Academy and the Bolzano Festival Bozen. He is also Director of Transart, a multidisciplinary festival in the same city exploring new frontiers in contemporary art. Trained as professional pianist in Bolzano, Vienna and Moscow, he was an active performer for 15 years before moving into cultural management. A founding member of the Media-Art Production Coop – where he has served as president and director – he has also been Artistic Director of the Klangspuren Schwaz contemporary music festival in Tyrol, and Deputy Director of the Manifesta International Foundation. He is currently President of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
