Research Professor with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Director of its Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. He has served on the editorial board of numerous journals and is former editor-in-chief of AI Communications and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence. His distinctions include the Robert S. Engelmore Memorial Lecture Award of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the Distinguished Service Award of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI).
