Professor in the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology (Jena, Germany).
His main research topics include the induced defense of plants and the sequestration of plant metabolites by insects.
Since his first publication in 1976, he has authored more than 350 scientific papers. President of the International Society for Chemical Ecology for the years 2008 and 2009, he also holds the Hans Herloff Inhoffen Medal, awarded to him in 2005.
